Legal
Acceptable use
FirstCut is for editing footage you're entitled to edit. This page says what that rules out, in plain language. The binding version is Terms §5.
What the AI in FirstCut does
FirstCut uses third-party speech-to-text and AI language-model providers. The model reads a transcript of your footage and chooses and orders moments from it. It does not generate images, video or audio — every frame in a cut is a frame you recorded. It selects; it doesn't invent. FirstCut is an independent product and isn't affiliated with or endorsed by those providers.
Not allowed
Don't use FirstCut to process or produce:
- Sexually explicit, pornographic or otherwise NSFW material, of any kind and whatever rights you hold in it.
- Anything that sexualises minors. We report it where the law requires.
- Content you don't have the rights to, or content that is unlawful where you or we are.
- Deceptive edits of real people — rearranging what someone said so they appear to say something they didn't, and presenting that as genuine.
- Harassment, defamation, hate or threats aimed at a person or a group.
- Material that promotes violence, self-harm or illegal activity.
And don't use the service itself to:
- probe or work around the isolation between accounts, the usage limits, or any gate on the service;
- reverse-engineer, scrape, or automate it beyond ordinary interactive use, or resell it as your own.
Editing is selective by nature — that's the craft, and cutting an interview down is exactly what FirstCut is for. The line is presenting a fabricated statement as something a person actually said.
What happens if the rules are broken
We may suspend or close an account that breaks this policy, and delete the work in it, without refund — Terms §12 sets out how. Where the law requires us to report content, we do.
Reporting a problem
If you think FirstCut is being used against these rules, email support@firstcut.video. It's read by the person who runs the service.
This page summarises Terms §5 in plain language. Where the two differ, the Terms are what applies.
